Meet the People
Behind Our Mission

Behind every meal delivered, every ride given, and every smile shared is a dedicated team of staff and volunteer leaders who make it all possible. We believe people are our greatest strength. From our frontline caregivers to our board of directors, each person brings passion, skill, and a heart for serving Alaska’s seniors.

Our Team

Our team is dedicated to the Mat-Su Senior Services' mission of promoting honor, dignity, security, and independence for older Alaskans and to assist them in maintaining meaningful, quality lives.

Fred Traber, CEO

  • The Board of Directors of Mat-Su Senior Services in Palmer has hired Fred Traber to serve as the Interim CEO to oversee the Agency’s transition and assist with the search for a new CEO.

Originally from Montana, Fred came to Alaska in the mid-’70s as a member of the U.S. Air Force.  Upon completing his tour of duty, he elected to stay in Anchorage, working for Alyeska Pipeline.  He later joined the Municipality of Anchorage as Finance Director for the Anchorage Telephone Utility, retiring in 2000.

Choosing an active retirement, Fred has worked for the last 26 years as a contractor with numerous Alaska Native Corporations, petroleum companies, and various local governments in Alaska. In addition, he has diverse nonprofit board member experience and currently serves on the board of the statewide Alzheimer’s Resource of Alaska.

Fred has successfully been the nimble person who can step into an organization, bringing his diverse experience, positive, happy personality, and bringing a team together to collectively achieve their common goals and organizational mission.

Beth Westland, COO

  • Beth Westland is the Chief Operating Officer of Mat-Su Senior Services, where she oversees daily operations and ensures programs are developed, managed, and evaluated with care. For more than 15 years, she has been a cornerstone of the organization, beginning as Care Coordination Supervisor, then leading the Chore & Respite Department before stepping into her current role.

Her passion for senior care was shaped by owning and operating Angel’s Touch Assisted Living Home, as well as her earlier service as a Medic and Ambulance Chief for Big Lake Ambulance. These experiences deepened her dedication to making sure seniors feel valued and connected to community.

Born in North Dakota and raised in a military family, Beth has lived in Alaska since 1972. She enjoys spending time at her cabin with her husband and their five children, who keep her grounded and inspired.
